JAKARTA - The inauguration of the Binjai–Stabat toll road carried out by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) today leaves a special joy for the residents of North Sumatra. The reason is, during the socialization period which starts tomorrow, residents are allowed to cross the 11.8 kilometer freeway without being charged or free of charge.
This assurance was conveyed directly by the President Director of Hutama Karya, Budi Harto, who worked on the infrastructure project.
"We also inform you that starting tomorrow, the Binjai-Stabat toll road can be crossed by the people of Binjai and its surroundings, and the tariff has not been set during the socialization period by continuing to tap using an electronic money card," he said in a statement on Friday, February 4.

"Sumatra Island for Indonesia is a gateway on the west side, so connectivity needs to be improved so that the development of every major economic activity can continue," he said.
Given this strategic role, Budi is committed to continuing to contribute to connecting goodness through toll road infrastructure so that one by one province in Indonesia can be well connected.
"If fully connected, it could be an alternative road to Kuala Tanjung Port as the entrance and exit gate on the east coast of Sumatra Island," he said.
To note, the total length of toll roads that have been operated by Hutama Karya in the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) megaproject from Lampung to Aceh is around 542.8 kilometers. Meanwhile, the total length of toll roads that are still under construction is 519 kilometers.
"We are grateful to the parties involved in the construction of this toll road, because it can be completed with full support from the government and the surrounding community in North Sumatra," concluded Budi.
