Not Cooking Oil, 0.56 Percent January Inflation Triggered By Raised Chicken Prices

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that there was an inflation of 0.56 percent in the January 2022 period with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 108.26.

Head of BPS Margo Yuwono said inflation occurred due to rising prices as indicated by the increase in most indexes of expenditure groups, especially the food, beverage and tobacco groups by 1.17 percent.

“For this group, the largest contributing commodity comes from purebred chicken which contributes 0.07 percent. Then followed by 0.06 percent fresh fish and 0.03 percent rice,” he said during an online press conference on Monday, February 2.

Margo added that the next groups that contributed to inflation were clothing and footwear at 0.43 percent, housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups at 0.51 percent, and equipment, equipment and household routine maintenance groups at 0. 79 percent.

"The year-on-year inflation rate (January 2022 to January 2021) is 2.18 percent," he said.

For information, the increase in cooking oil prices that occurred at the beginning of this year, said Margo, did not contribute significantly to inflation because it was only 0.01 percent.

“The highest inflation occurred in Sibolga at 1.53 percent and the lowest occurred in Manokwari at 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Kotamobagu at 0.66 percent and the lowest occurred in Jayapura at 0.04 percent,” said Margo.
