JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir is said to have directly provided compensation to the family of the late Suratno, a BRILink agent in East Lampung who died after defending Rp50 million from the robber. In his modus operandi, the perpetrator pretended to be a customer and has now been arrested by the police.

According to Erick, the government and SOEs are fully committed to paying attention to inspiring people who drive the economy. He said that this is a form of deep condolence and strengthens the relationship.

"We are sorry for what happened to one of the BRILink Agents. Hopefully, a similar incident will not happen again," he said in a press statement Monday, January 31.

Erick added that the role of BRILink agents is very important to drive the economy, especially among the lower class.

“BRILink agents are able to carry out functions such as financial services in bank offices. They help and provide access to finance for various community needs, especially in remote areas. This contribution should be appreciated," he said.

To note, this situation further enhances BRI's efforts to provide protection for BRILink agents when carrying out their business activities. BRI is now said to be working with BRI Insurance (BRINS) in marketing micro insurance, one of which is Cash in Save (CIS) insurance with a low premium of IDR 50,000 per year.

This insurance can protect money in storage due to fire, explosion, plane crash, or robbery/forced retrieval.

Meanwhile, as a form of appreciation for productive BRILink Agent partners, this year BRI provides a privilege in the form of automatic CIS insurance protection in the East Lampung area.

This appreciation is also a form of education for BRILink agents with the aim of increasing awareness of the importance of insurance protection for the businesses they run.

According to BRI records, to date the number of BRILink agents has reached 503,000 spread over 58,800 villages. These agents cover 17,109 BUMDes, and are present in 7,619 traditional markets in Indonesia. The transaction volume until December 2021 has also penetrated Rp1,143 trillion with the number of transactions reaching 929 million transactions.
