JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team did not use the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) for cages during the 2024 AFF Cup.

The Manahan Stadium was chosen as a replacement for the headquarters of the Garuda Squad. So far, the stadium, which is located in Solo City, has been confirmed by the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) as the home arena in the group phase of the 2024 AFF Cup.

On the official AFF website, it is stated that SUGBK urges long-term improvements to be ready as the 2026 Asian Zone World Cup Qualifiers arena by 2025.

The AFF has also conducted inspections and consultations with local authorities and PSSI so that the AFF Competition Committee has approved the Manahan Stadium in Surakarta as a new venue for the Indonesian group stage match.

The Manahan Stadium, which successfully hosted the 2023 U-17 World Cup final, offers world-class facilities suitable for the 2024 AFF Cup.

"The safety and well-being of the players is the most important thing for the AFF and our Member Association."

"After careful consideration and in-depth discussions with all relevant parties, the decision to move the Indonesian home stadium was made to ensure a safe and high quality playing field for all participants."

"With a proven track record of hosting major international events such as the 2023 U-17 World Cup, Manahan Stadium is an excellent choice for the 2024 AFF Cup match," said AFF President Major General Khiev Sameth.

Meanwhile, there is no further information about the possibility of Pakansari Stadium (Bogor Regency) and Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (Surabaya) as the home venue in the knockout phase.

AFF said that for the knockout round match, there was indeed the potential for the Indonesian national team to move home again.

"The venue for the knockout round matches will be determined and announced in the future, if the team escapes the group stage," reads AFF's statement.
