JAKARTA Men's singles badminton player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting beat Magnus Johannesen to reach the second round of the French Open 2023.

Ginting got the ticket after undergoing the rubber games 21-14, 16-21, and 21-18 at the Glaz Arena, Rennes, France, Wednesday, October 25, 2023 evening WIB.

After securing the first game, Anthony Ginting started the second game with six consecutive points. However, after being chased by the opponent until the position was 14-14, he could not rise again.

"From the start, it had actually been pressing, already the strategy and the design had gone well until the second game after the interval," he said.

"Only after that, I was careless and carried away to the pattern of the opponent's game that accelerated the tempo. It made the opponent rise up and quite comfortable," added Ginting.

When entering the third game, Ginting played tight in the first four points. However, he started to feel comfortable after that and led the match to ensure victory.

"In the third game I tried to reverse what I played at the beginning. From the time, from the pattern of play, it was no less fast," said Ginting.

"The focus as much as possible continues to press. In this third game, I also respond with a lot of points or before the service tries to jump or scream so I don't let my guard down again," he added.

Today, Wednesday (25/10), before Ginting secured the second round ticket, the men's doubles Leo Rolly Carnando / Daniel Marthin and the women's singles Kusuma Wardani had already obtained it.

Leo/Daniel advanced after winning the walkover over fifth seed from Malaysia, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, while Putri qualified after defeating Lianne Tan from Belgium.
