JAKARTA Women's doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti stepped into the semifinals of the 2023 Badminton World Championships.

The eleventh seed remained in the competition after securing a 21-18, 13-21, 21-10 victory over Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota at the Royal Arena, Copenhagen, Denmark, Friday, August 25, 2023.

This is Apri/Fadia's first win over the Japanese pair from a total of three of their meetings.

Prior to this year's World Championships, the two pairs above had clashed twice, all of which happened this year. From the two meetings, Apri/Fadia have always lost.

The first clash was presented in the semifinals of the Swiss Open in March. At that time, Apri/Fadia withdrew in the middle of the second game (after losing in the first game) because Apri suffered a shoulder injury.

The two of them met in the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open last June. Again, Apri/Fadia had to admit their opponent's superiority in a two-game straight match.

In tomorrow's semifinal match, Apri/Fadia will face third seed Kim So Yeong/Kong Hee Yong. The Korean pair went to the semifinals after beating Thailand's representative, Jongkolphan Kititharakul/Rawinda Prajongjai.

Apri/Fadia have previously secured victory over Kim/Kong in their only clash so far at the Malaysia Open 2023.
