JAKARTA - Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets officially accepted the offer to join Inter Miami. This decision made him reunite with Lionel Messi.

Busquets joined Inter Miami after Argentine striker Messi confirmed earlier this month that he left Paris Saint-Germain and moved to David Beckham's club.

Busquets, 34, previously announced in May that he would leave Barcelona, who has just won La Liga 2022/2023 after 18 years at the club.

Busquets and Messi spent 13 seasons together at Barca from 2008 to 2021. They are part of a team that has won three European Champions Leagues, eight La Liga titles, and six Copa del Rey.

Before the official Inter Miami, Busquets was also rumored to have accepted an offer from Saudi Arabia. However, he turned down the offer and preferred to move to Inter Miami which plays in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Former Spanish captain Busquets played a total of 722 games for Barcelona. That number is the third most appearance in club history.

Busquets joined Barcelona in 2005 as a young player. He then entered the B Barca team before making his debut in the first team.

The first match with the first team under manager Pep Guardiola took place in 2008 against Racing Santander in the league. For 15 years with the senior team he scored 18 goals and provided 40 assists.

He retired from international football in December, after winning the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championships with Spain.
