Rodriguez scored the winning goal in the 86th minute with a header from close range after Uruguay dominated most of the game.

Uruguay really performed solidly with their strong defensive line which only conceded three goals in this tournament. All of these three goals conceded against England in the group stage.

La Celeste actually had a chance to open the scoring early in the game, with a free kick from Rodriguez, two long-range kicks from captain Fabricio Diaz, and a header from Anderson Duarte.

Meanwhile, Italy player Cesare Casadei, who is the tournament's top scorer with seven goals, made a disappointing appearance in the final.

This is the first title of the U-20 World Cup for Celeste. The victory of the Latin American team also ended four consecutive titles won by European teams before.

Uruguay lost in the finals of the tournament in 1997 and 2013. Brazil was the last winner of South America in 2011.

Prior to this final match, the Israeli debutant team defeated South Korea 3-1 to secure third place in the same stadium at La Plata.

Indonesia was originally scheduled to host this tournament this age group. However, the rejection of the Israeli national team made FIFA revoke the status and give it to Argentina one month before the match begins.
