JAKARTA The taekwondo sports (sports) target four gold medals from the 2023 SEA Games which will take place in Cambodia. If this target is achieved, it will exceed the results obtained at the 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam.

At that time, taekwondo brought home one gold medal, two silver medals, and eight bronze medals.

"We are preparing athletes to get as much gold as possible at the Cambodian SEA Games," said Head of the Indonesian Taekwondo Executive Board (PBTI) Fahmy Fachrezer.

To win the four gold medals, the Taekwondo team will rely on Ni Kadek Heni Prikasih, Muhammad Bassam Raihan, Osanando Naufal Khairudin, and Silvana Lamanda.

Heni, 21 years old, will compete in the women's number kyeorugi under 46 kg. She is currently at the top of performance after previously winning a gold medal at a world championship in Bulgaria last month.

Cambodia is Heni's second SEA Games after previously winning a bronze medal in his debut at the Southeast Asian quarterly biennial event which took place in Vietnam.

"We hope he can win gold. Because he is at the peak of his performance. Cambodia is the SEA Games and he is at a mature age," said Fahmi.

If they can win gold in Cambodia, Heni will be sent to the Asian Games which will be held in Hangzhou in September-October 2023.

In addition, the results at the SEA Games also open up Heni's opportunity to be able to fight for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Heni said he would try to focus and improve unsatisfactory results in Vietnam. "I continue to prepare myself as well as possible and hopefully I can come to the Paris Olympics," said Heni.

Meanwhile, Bassam Raihan will later compete in the number of Mens kyeorugi under 63 kg after successfully occupying the highest podium to win gold in Vietnam.

The other two names, Khairudin and Silvana, will compete in the number of Mens kyeorugi under 80 kg and women kyeorugi under 67 kg.
