Revealing The Potential Of The Indonesian Contingent To Lose 39 Gold Medals At The 2023 SEA Games Cambodia

JAKARTA The Indonesian contingent has the potential to lose 39 gold medals at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia. The calculations after several sports (sports) that could become Indonesia's mainstay will certainly not be contested.

The multi-branch championship, which involves Southeast Asian countries, will take place from 5 to 27 May. In total there are 44 sports and 632 disciplinary numbers that will be contested in the biennial event.

"I will be transparent about data on athletes' achievements. Now I will explain why we have the potential to lose 39 gold medals at the Cambodian SEA Games later," said Chef de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesian Contingent Lexyndo Hakim, Thursday, March 2, 2023.

Indonesia will lose as many as 32 gold medals from six mainstay sports. The six sports were previously contested at the 2022 Vietnam SEA Games, but in the 32nd edition of this year they have not been contested.

The details of the 32 gold medals that will be lost are five gold medals from archery, six medals from canoeing and kayak, from rowing and shooting eight gold each, two from Boling, and three medals missing from chess.

Meanwhile, the remaining seven medals that went missing came from artistic gymnastic, women's floor exercise, e-sport free fire mobile, team events, women's individual downhill bicycle racing, and Individual Time Trial women. This is also a sport whose events are not contested.

"But, we also have other sports that have the potential to add medals for Indonesia. Including sports that are not played in Vietnam, but held in Cambodia," said Lexy.

In addition, of the 44 sports contested later, only 21 of them are included in the olimpic category. Meanwhile, the rest of the hosts include more traditional sports and numbers outside the olimpics.

This step is to smooth their desire to shift Indonesia's position from third from the list of medals in the event which began in 1959.

At the Vietnam 2022 SEA Games, Indonesia was ranked third in the medal standings with a total collection of 241. The details are 69 gold, 92 silver, and 80 bronze medals.
