JAKARTA Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez announced he would be in the ring again on May 6 in his hometown. This will be his first duel there after 12 years.

The schedule for the fight was announced by the 32-year-old boxer who was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, through a video he uploaded on his Instagram social media account.

He recorded the video with the Governor of Jalisco Enrique Alfaroc. However, Alvarez is still keeping the name of the potential opponent he will face later.

"I am ready to return to my hometown to defend my title where I was born and start a story with people who always support me," Alvarez said in the video.

Alvarez, who is the undisputed super middleweight world champion with a record (58-2-2, 39 KOs), will undergo this fight to mark the 200th anniversary of Jalisco's independence.

He has not competed in his homeland since scoring a technical knockout (TKO) victory in the fifth round against Semit Cintar back in November 2011 at the Monumental Plaza de Toros Merexico, Mexico City.

"I will fight for Jalisco and celebrate the greatness of our land with you," Alvarez said.

The location of Alvarez's next fight has not been announced as well. However, Estadio Akron and the Jalisco Stadium are the two most feasible places in the region due to the possible audience capacity.

Alvarez has long been linked to facing British boxer John Ryder in his next fight. Both sides have also negotiated with Matchroom Boxing Chair Eddie Hearn in recent months.

Hearn also consistently emphasized that 34-year-old Ryder (32-5, 18-KO) is very likely to be Alvarez's next opponent.

Alvarez underwent left wrist surgery late last year after an absolute score win over arch rival Gennady Golovkin in a trilogy battle last September.

In recent months Alvarez has also mentioned that he is looking for a tune-up fight before refocusing on a rematch against ringat heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol to avenge his defeat in May.
