JAKARTA Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez will be in the ring in his hometown again. British fighter John Ryder is a potential opponent facing the boxer from Guadalajara.

Matchroom Boxing promoter and boss Eddie Hearn informed Alvarez that he really wanted to fight again in his home country. If not, he will get in the ring on May 6.

This will be his first fight in his hometown since winning over Krimit Cintarman last November 26, 2011. When competing at the Monument Plaza de Toros Mexico City, Alvarez won a technical knockout (TKO) in the fifth round.

"Canelo is eager to fight in Mexico. He will still make a lot of money there. I think he wants to take this fight to the audience, and Ryder can be the right opponent for the duel," Hearn said.

Ryder, who is from London and has a record-winning loss of 32-5, 18 knockouts, won the WBO super interim middleweight title in his last fight against compatriot Zach Parker.

In the fight that took place on November 26 at the O2 Arena, Ryder recorded a TKO victory in the fifth round. The victory made him a mandatory challenger for one of Alvarez's four 168 heavyweight world titles.

Hearn said apart from Mexico, the United States was also listed as the location of the duel between Alvarez and Ryder. Although there is no certainty, Hearn believes this duel will materialize.

"I think the fight will take place in the United States or in Mexico and I think against John Ryder. You know, he is a mandatory opponent. It hasn't been confirmed yet, but I feel it will be the next game," Hearn said.

Currently Eddy Reynoso as coach and manager of Alvarez is examining the feasibility of three or four locations in Mexico for the main match of the DAZN Pay-Per-View. If the duel is not held in Mexico then it will most likely take place in Las Vegas.

Alvarez, who is the four-division champion, has just beaten rival Gennadify Golovkin with absolute points in their third fight in September last year.

He then underwent surgery to repair his left wrist which was injured a few weeks after the 12-round fight against the Kazakhstan boxer.
