JAKARTA - South Korean League 2 club Jeonnam Dragons revealed the reason they brought in the right-back of the Indonesian national team Asnawi Mangkualam.
Asnawi was officially introduced as a new player on Friday, January 27 yesterday. The 23-year-old was brought in from Asnan Greeners and tied up a one-year contract to navigate the 2023 season in the second caste of the Korean League (K League 2).
Director of Jeonnam Dragon's Minister Lee said that they had strong reasons to bring in the Makassar-born player.
"I am happy that Asnawi joined us. He is a player with good speed and technique. I hope he can adapt and show his charming performance," Lee said on the club's official website, quoted by Antara, Saturday, January 28.
Jeonnam, who won the South Korean League 1 in 1997, assessed that besides being fast, Asnawi also has strong stamina and persistence on the field.
Then the player is also considered the type of defender who is able to defend well and is able to flow the ball quickly. The capital makes the club confident that the player will match the pattern of play applied by their coach Lee Jang-kwan.
Meanwhile, Asnawi Mangkualam said he was happy to be able to defend Jeonnam Dragons. He is determined to bring his club to promote to K League 1.
"Jeonnam Dragons is known as a club with a long history in South Korea. I will do my best here," said the former Indonesian League 1 club PSM player.
Asnawi is now officially the first Indonesian player to play in Jeonnam Dragons. However, Korean competition is no stranger to the defender.
He was previously used to the competition there because he had strengthened Ansan. At the previous club, Asnawi made 40 appearances with two goals and three assists.
