JAKARTA Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez is getting ready to make his big debut in England. He is currently in talks to face host boxer John Ryder.

The news was conveyed by a well-known promoter and owner of Matchroom Sport, Eddie Hearn. He said that his party was currently discussing the possibility of the duel with Canelo.

"I have spoken to Eddie Reynoso and the team over the past few days. We are currently negotiating the fight," Hearn said as quoted by The Sun, Friday, January 20, 2023.

"We want to see an international fight, something a little different for Saul, and hopefully we can reach an agreement on that in the next few weeks," he added.

Canelo had his last fight against Gennady Golovkin in a trilogy fight in September last year. The win earned him the undisputed super middleweight belt.

Meanwhile, Ryder, 34, became a mandatory WBO challenger after beating Zach Parker in November. The win put him in a position to face Canelo.

"Obviously, Canelo had a choice, it didn't have to be John Ryder, but he was the first choice," said Eddie.

"We are trying to agree to a deal with Canelo Alvarez, and we are also trying to agree to a deal with John Ryder," he added.

Alvarez is claimed to want to avenge his defeat in the lightweight class of Dmitry Bivol in September. Bivol previously came out victorious in their fight in May 2022.

However, before the duel Canelo reportedly wanted to first undergo his first fight this year in May. This allowed him to meet Ryder.
