Victory Over Atletico Madrid Not Just 3 Points In The Eyes Of The Barcelona Coach

JAKARTA - Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez is increasingly confident in hunting for the Spanish La Liga title for the 2022/2023 season. The injection of motivation was obtained after winning over Atletico Madrid in the 16th week.

The Blaugrana got an additional three points thanks to the only goal scored by Ousmane Dembele in the first half at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Monday, January 9, early morning WIB.

"This is a win, but not just three points. This victory gives us great enthusiasm and confidence for the rest of the league," Xavi said.

The results from Atletico's headquarters made Barcelona even more powerful at the top of the standings with a collection of 41 points from 16 matches. They are temporarily three points ahead of Real Madrid in second place with the same number of matches.

This is Barca's first win from two matches after Qatar's 2022 World Cup. Previously, they were held to a draw by city rivals Espanyol on Saturday, December 31.

"We were able to win on this difficult pitch. Without playing as great as we did against Espanyol, today we took three gold points. We went to the top of the standings to be candidates for this league," he said.

"We took advantage of our chances. They succeeded in suppressing us and we know how to suffer and the importance of keeping the clean sheet," he added.

The first position at the top of the standings was secured by the Blaugrana because of the bad results obtained by Madrid. Los Blancos previously lost three points after losing 2-1 at Villarreal headquarters.

In the following week Barcelona will play at home when they host Getafe at Camp Nou on January 22. Meanwhile, Madrid will have an away match to Atletico Bilbao headquarters.
