The Executive Board of the Indonesian Weightlifting Association (PB PABSI) has placed three representatives in the ranks of the new management of the Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) for the period 2023-2027.
Based on a press release quoted by Antara, Sunday, January 8, the three elected Indonesian representatives were Sonny Kasiran who served as Member of the AWF Technical Commission, Hadi Wihardja as the Research and Development Commission, and Louise Kartika Indah Manurung as a Member of the Medical Commission.
They were officially appointed as administrators in the AWF management election which was held in Doha, Qatar, last January 5.
The management period of the Asian Weightlifting Federation for the previous period was supposed to end in 2019. However, the election had to be delayed by two years due to the doping case that occurred in the IWF, so the International Olympic Committee (IOC) asked the federation to improve and fix the regulations before carrying out the selection of new administrators.
The election for the management of the AWF for the 2023-2027 term was attended by 43 AWF member countries plus North Korea which were present online, as well as IWF top administrators.
Prior to the implementation of the AWF management election, two championships were held, namely the Qatar Cup and the West Asian Championship which took place from December 31 to January 3.
However, Indonesia did not send representatives in the two championships because they were not included in the 2024 Olympic qualifying series. Athletes and coaches are also spending year-end holidays.
The Indonesian weightlifting team will continue their struggle for the 2024 Paris Olympics qualifiers at the 2023 Asian Championships in Jinju, South Korea on May 3-13.
