JAKARTA - Belarusian tennis player, Aryna Sabalenka, has begun to spread threats ahead of the Australian Open 2023. The world number five will face the tournament with the status of champions.

Aryna Sabalenka won her first title since 2021 at the Adelaide International tournament. She beat Czech young Linda Noskova 6-3, 7-6, Sunday, January 8.

Sabalenka ended three successive defeats to the WTA finals with a one-hour 43-minute win at Memorial Drive at a temperature of 36 degrees Celsius.

The second seed added one title out of 10 trophies he had previously fought. Amazingly, he ended this week without losing a set.

That note could be a danger signal for his rivals.

This victory is also an impressive start for Sabalenka this year. He continued his strong performance at the end of last season which advanced to the final of the WTA Finals year tour before being defeated by Caroline Garcia.

Meanwhile, Sabalenka praised his opponent Noskova, who is now ranked 102nd in the world. At the age of 18, he became the youngest finalist in the WTA 500 event after Caroline Wozniacki who appeared at New Haven in 2007.

"Congratulations to this young woman (Naskova) for such an extraordinary week," said Sabalenka during the victory ceremony as quoted by Antara from AFP, Monday, January 9.

"I think you have a bright future. I'm sure 100 percent of us will meet each other more often in the final. Thank you to my team for being here today, for everyone. It's been an amazing week and I enjoy every second," he continued.
