JAKARTA - Nova Widianto made a surprising decision at the end of 2022. He decided to leave PBSI and move to Malaysia.

Nova's decision had made Indonesia's mixed doubles condition a concern. It is feared that mixed doubles athletes will be affected by the steps taken by Nova.

However, this was denied by the Head of the Development and Achievement Division of PP PBSI Rionny Mainaky. He said Indonesian mixed doubles athletes actually became more independent and responsible after being abandoned by Nova Widianto.

"With Nova's departure, I'm not grateful but I'm not worried either. The children do feel lost but they are independent. This is now Amon's job (Santoso) to make them work harder," said Rionny, as reported by Antara, Saturday, January 7.

Even though he feels lost, Rionny ensures that the mixed doubles program will continue to run according to the procedures that have been given. He also asked Amon, who previously served as assistant coach, to carry out training for his athletes.

PBSI is not in doubt about the abilities possessed by Amon because he has experienced being a coach in Japan for several years with Rionny.

"He is the same as I was in Japan, once won a league between companies there. He is a tough and disciplined person, if Nova is a good person," said Rionny.

The difference in character between Nova and Amon is considered to bring significant changes to athletes. With high discipline, athletes can get more mature preparation before undergoing a tournament.

Even Rionny openly asked Amon not to spoil mixed doubles badminton player Pelatnas Cipayung, but still provide training portions according to their respective responsibilities.

"Whoever the coach is the same, it's just a matter of how to prepare. At night you have to evaluate, you have to know the direction of the wind, don't depend on other people, without a coach you should still be responsible," said Rionny.
