JAKARTA - The Portugal national team does not yet have a coach after the dismissal of Fernando Santos. Jose Mourinho is a strong candidate to fill that position.

In fact, reportedly, Mourinho was willing to replace Santos if there was an offer from the Portuguese football federation. However, this news was immediately denied by the Director of AS Roma, Tiago Pinto. "When you get a coach like Mourinho, you have to get used to rumors," said Pinto.

He said this is not the first time Mourinho has been linked with rumors of becoming a national team coach. In fact, several times he was rumored to have moved to another club.

"Ini adalah pertama kalinya dalam 18 bulan bahwa sebuah klub atau Federasi tertariknya. Kami tidak memiliki gangguan di Algarve, kami hanya fokus pada pekerjaan," tutur Pinto.

"I am Portuguese and every time we change coaches, Mourinho is mentioned, but we rely on him for the future," he continued, quoted by Antara via the Daily Mail.

Pinto's focus at the moment is on fulfilling Mourinho's request to bring in a new centre-back. However, the request was hampered by the club's Financial Fair Play situation. Tiago admits Roma will do their best to fulfill the support of their coaches even though they have to deal with UEFA's FFP rules. "I always say that I agree with him. We played with three defenders, but we only have four centre-backs and we need five. Technically, we can only bring in players when someone leaves," said Pinto.
