Group A Standings For The 2022 AFF Cup After The Indonesian National Team Was Offset By 10 Thai Players

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team drew against Thailand at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Thursday, December 29. The following is the preliminary standings of Group A of the 2022 AFF Cup.

The Garuda squad actually has many golden opportunities to bring home three points. Unfortunately, Shin Tae-yong's troops only closed the match with the same score 1-1.

After wasting three golden opportunities in the first half, Indonesia took the lead five minutes after halftime through a penalty that Marc Klok executed.

The penalty was given by the referee after Theerathon Bunmathan touched the ball in the forbidden box. Thailand also had to play with ten players after that because the referee expelled Dechmitri's Sanrawat who violated Saddil Ramdani strongly.

Despite the superior number of players, Garuda is still focused on facing Thailand's game. Asnawi Mangkualam then made a blunder that led to Sarach Yooyen's goal to identify the score.

This result makes Indonesia have to settle for staying in second place in the group standings with a collection of seven points. Meanwhile, Thailand is still in the top position with the same points, but is ahead on goal difference.

Taking second place is clearly a big loss for Indonesia. The reason is, if you qualify for the semifinals as runner-up, the Garuda Squad will face the winner of Group B.

So far, Group B is still controlled by Vietnam, which is one of the favorites to win. Therefore, Indonesia has a tough task in the last match against the Philippines on January 2.

Egy Maulana Vikri and his friends had to win the match while hoping Thailand would lose or just get a draw against Cambodia. Or at least Shin Tae-yong's team need to win big and keep the clean sheet up to the top with a goal difference advantage.
