Newcastle United Now Sitting In The Top 3 Position, The Manager Is Not Interested In Seeing The Premier League Standings

JAKARTA - Newcastle United made a surprise in the Premier League this season. Until the break in the 2022 World Cup, The Magpies are now in third place in the standings.

Amazingly, the club, which is now owned by wealthy Saudi Arabia, has only lost once in all competitions so far this season. In addition, they also won their last five league games.

Interestingly, the manager, Eddie Howe admits that he is not interested in seeing the standings where his team has successfully penetrated the top three so far.

"I've never seen a single league standings, really I've never," he said as quoted by Antara via AFP.

"It's not to say I don't realize where we are, but for me always focus on the next training session to make sure we give the players the best chance to play well in the next game," Howe continued.

Last year Newcastle struggled in the relegation zone after winning just one of their first 18 matches. But Kieran Trippier's arrival, Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes and Matt Targett, changed everything.

Newcastle moved away from relegation to stay at the top of the league. However, Howe is not interested in looking back despite coaching Newcastle's extraordinary revival since he was appointed coach in November 2021.

"It's passed. We've enjoyed what we've been doing so far, but it feels like we're only halfway through," said the 45-year-old coach, the former Bournemouth boss.

Newcastle will face Leicester which they will face in the League Cup quarter-finals next month.

The Foxes have won six of the last seven games between the two teams.

"In my opinion, they are the top team with top managers and that never changes even though they are having a difficult start to the season," Howe said.

"The quality of Brendan (Rodggers) work always shines in his team and if you look at their players, there hasn't been much dramatic change. So we have great respect for them," Howe concluded.
