Kyle Walker Insults The England National Team Lacks Experience, But Now He Is More Prepared

JAKARTA - England defender Kyle Walker thinks his team is better prepared for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. However, he admits, the opposing team is also better than before.

Walker said Gareth Southgate's squad lacked experience when facing big teams. However, they have learned lessons when breaking the World Cup semifinals in Russia 2018 and the Euro 2020 final.

"I think this team lacks experience in big matches," Walker said as quoted by AFP, Tuesday, December 7.

"Maybe we knocked down some walls in Russia, won penalties (against Colombia) and things like that, but we still lack experience."

Now, Walker feels The Three Lions are better prepared. However, he will not underestimate the opposing team.

"I think the players from other teams, when you look at Morocco for example, how slick it is they play against an excellent Spanish team and get the results they want. You get a surprise from Japan and so on. I think the standard of play has gone up a bit from Russia," he said.

Walker himself has become the key to England's defense. Having an orthodox defensive style, this Manchester City player is not very adventurous on the wing.

"I'm not as attacking in the future as I played for Tottenham as a right-back," he said.

"It's more about reading the game, opponents, the formation the manager wants and adapting to it," Walker continued.
