Messi Ogah Apologizes To Canelo: I Did Not Tarnish The Mexicans And Their Jerseys

JAKARTA - Lionel Messi refused to apologize to Saul Canelo Alvarez and the Mexican people because he felt he had done nothing wrong.

Canelo wrote on Twitter last weekend to vent his anger after a video clip showing Messi's toe hit El Tri's jersey on the floor of Argentina's dressing room.

The incident occurred after Messi led Argentina to beat Mexico 2-0 in the second match of Group C, at the Lusail Stadium, Sunday, November 27 yesterday.

"Did you see Messi cleaning the dressing room with our jersey and flag? He better pray to God not to see me," Mexican boxer wrote on Twitter at the time.

After Argentina beat Poland to ensure itself as the leader of Group C at the 2022 World Cup, Thursday night WIB, Messi was asked what happened on Saturday in the Albiceleste dressing room.

"It was a misunderstanding. Those who knew me knew that I didn't harass anyone. These are the things that happened in the dressing room after the game. I don't need to apologize because I don't harass people in Mexico or the jersey," said Messi.

Canelo finally issued an apology to Messi via Twitter after the large number of Messi supporters criticized the boxer. They think Canelo reacted excessively.

"I was carried away by the passion and love I felt for my country and I made comments that were inappropriate. I want to apologize to Messi and the Argentine people," Canelo wrote.

"Every day we learn something new and this time it's my turn. I wish both teams success in their game today and will continue to support Mexico until the end," he added.
