JAKARTA The Qatar 2022 World Cup group stage is entering its final stage. There are still many teams that have struggled to qualify for the last 16 of the quadrennial competition.

Currently, there are seven teams that have confirmed themselves to qualify and others will definitely be eliminated. Meanwhile, there are also other teams who have to determine their fate until the last match.

The most difficult situation, for example, will be faced by teams in Group C. Poland, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico, who fill this group, both still have a chance to qualify for the round of 16.

Then, favorite teams like Belgium and Germany have to win their last game if they want to qualify for the round of 16. Currently Germany is still the caretaker of Group E, while in third place Group F.

To qualify for the knockout stages, the teams must meet several criteria applied by FIFA for the group stage. At least there are several factors that determine whether a team will qualify for the next round.

The first criterion is goal difference. The team with the highest positive goal difference will advance to the next round.

If there is a draw in the goal difference, the more productive teams in terms of scoring an automatic goal will be declared as the team that has the right to pass.

If the goal difference and the number of goals scored are still the same, the third criterion that applies is the number of points achieved when comparing the two teams or known as head-to-head (team A automatically occupies the top position if they have won over team B).

The final determination was decided based on fair play points. The yellow card reduces 1 point, two yellow cards that generate red cards reduce 3 points, the red card immediately reduces 4 points, the yellow card followed by the red card immediately reduces 5 points.

If all the points have been used but are still the same, then the final path is for the team to get a draw, more are entitled to qualify.
