JAKARTA - A group of well-known angklung musicians from Indonesia, Saung Angklung Udjo, appeared to entertain football lovers during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. This group has an 11-day stage in Katara, Kampung Budaya, Doha, Qatar.

The cultural event in line with the 202 FIFA World Cup celebrations featured the richness of Indonesian culture and heritage. This performance was held by the Indonesian Embassy in Doha in collaboration with Katara from November 18 to 28.

"About 12 angklung players from Indonesia and hundreds of players from our community in Qatar have participated in this show. This is part of our public diplomacy to build understanding among the international community in Qatar through culture," said Indonesian Ambassador Ridwan Hassan in a press statement, reported by the Gulf Times, Tuesday, November 29, 2022.

The Indonesian Embassy brought Saung Angklung Udjo from Bandung to Doha. They are given the task of providing entertainment to visitors through unique cultural performances by using traditional musical instruments.

Not only entertaining, Saung Angklung Udjo also invited visitors to practice playing angklung.

"On stage, visitors not only enjoy our performance, but can also practice playing angklung," said Taufiq Udjo, team leader from Saung Angklung Udjo, Bandung.

Angklung is a traditional Indonesian musical instrument made of bamboo. This musical instrument comes from West Java.

This musical instrument was officially recognized by UNESCO in 2010 as a cultural heritage of non-bent or Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Outside Katara, Indonesian cultural activation artists also attracted many football fans with their live performances at Metro stations.
