Menpora Send A Letter To FIFA Regarding SUGBK Wants To Be A Venue For The 2022 AFF Cup

JAKARTA - The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Zainudin Amali, admitted that he had written to FIFA regarding the use of the Bung Karno Main Stadium as a venue for the 2022 AFF Cup. So far, SUGBK cannot be used for activities outside the U-20 World Cup.

"For the time being, non-World Cup activities are still not allowed, even including the AFF Cup, we ask FIFA for permission," said the Menpora on the Ministry's official website,

In the letter, the Minister of Youth and Sports guaranteed that the main venue and designated training for the 2023 U-20 World Cup will be maintained.

"I have submitted a letter to FIFA for a number of things," said the politician from the Golkar Party.

Menpora admitted that he had communicated with PSSI regarding the venue for the AFF Cup. He revealed that the parent of Indonesian football already had an alternative if later FIFA did not give permission.

"I communicated with the Secretary General of PSSI (Yunus Nusi). He is okay regarding the Patriot Stadium or Pakansari," said the Menpora.

As is known, the 2022 AFF Cup will be held from December 20, 2022 to January 16, 2023. Indonesia is included in Group A with Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia and Brunei Darussalam.

In the tournament later, the Indonesian national team will most likely be strengthened by Jordi Amat and Sandy Walsh. The process of the two is now nearing the final stage.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has issued a Presidential Decree (KEPPRES) for both of them. Sandy and Jordi now just have to take the oath as Indonesian citizens.
