Indonesia Enters Pot 2 Undian U-20 Asian Cup, Confirmed Not One Group With Japan And Australia

JAKARTA - A total of 16 teams are confirmed to qualify for the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup finals. There are 11 countries that have qualified for the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup with the status of group winners.

They are Uzbekistan as the host, Saudi Arabia (Group A winners), Qatar (Group B), Japan (Group C), Jordan (Group D), South Korea (Group E), Indonesia (Group F), Oman (Group G), Australia (Group H), Tajikistan (Group I) and Iran (Group J).

While the remaining five other countries were declared qualified for the U-20 Asian Cup because of their best runner-up status. Those countries are Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan, China, Iraq, and Syria.

Based on the distribution of pots that have been released by AFC, Indonesia is in pot 2. Apart from Indonesia, there are also Japan, Tajikistan and Australia.

While pot 1 is filled by Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Qatar. Uzbekistan is in the first pot because of their status as hosts.

While Saudi Arabia is the 2018 U-19 Asian Cup champion, South Korea is in the same pot because it qualified for the final, while Qatar qualified for the 2018 U-19 Asian Cup semifinals.

By being in pot 2, Indonesia will not face Japan, which is a strong candidate for this year's competition campaign. However, it did not make the move easy because the candidate from another pot was a team that was no less strong.

As is known, the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup will take place in Uzbekistan on March 1-18, 2023.

The following is the distribution of pot drawing for the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup:

Pots 1: Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Qatar.Pot 2 : Japan, Tajikistan, Australia and the Indonesian national team.

Pot 3: Jordan, China, Iraq and Vietnam.

Pot 4 : Iran, Oman, Syria and Kyrgyzstan.
