JAKARTA - Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) club, Satria Muda (SM) Jakarta, officially announced their new recruit, Widyanta Putra Teja. This player from Surabaya became SM's first recruit ahead of the 2023 season which will take place next January.

Widyanta is bound by a long-term contract with a duration of four years. SM said this long-term contract was a form of the club's trust in the quality of the former West Bandits Surabaya player.

"This is like fulfilling my childhood dream," said the player who is familiarly called Widy on the official SM website.

Currently, Widy is training with the Indonesian national basketball team in the United States. He will only join training with his new team in early November.

Preparations have been made by SM long ago. Previously, SM had secured the services of Laurentius Steven Oi.

He became the first player to reach an agreement with SM to survive. Laurentius continued his six-year career with the club from Jakarta.

"The communication, agreement and trust given by the management and coaching team to me made me decide to stay for two more seasons," he said.

In addition to recruiting Widy and defending Laurentius, SM also decided not to continue working with Rizal Falconi. His contract did end in early October.

SM said the player who plays as a small forward would continue his career at a new club. "This joint decision is considered the right step for both parties," wrote SM.

With Falconi's departure, SM will take advantage of the opportunity to orbit the young talents they have. Call it Ali Bagir, and Kelvin Sanjaya, who previously lived in the Youbel Sondakh squad.
