JAKARTA - The All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has officially stopped the League 2 competition after doing it for the Indonesian League 1 due to the tragedy of Kanjuruhan.
This was confirmed by PSSI Secretary General Yunus Nusi when attending a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polhukam) on Monday, October 3.
"For Liga 1 [and] Liga 2 we will stop it," said Yunus Nusi.
Previously, the Indonesian League 1 competition had already been stopped indefinitely. The decision follows the direction of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Yunus ensured that although Liga 1 and Liga 2 were temporarily suspended, the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup Qualification which took place in Indonesia continued.
The Group B qualfification has been taking place since last October 1 and will be completed on October 9. Apart from Indonesia, this group is filled with Guam, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Malaysia, and Palestine.
"For those who hold other events, they are not disturbed, especially for the AFC. We also hope that the government will welcome us to continue to carry out it because five countries are already in Indonesia," said Yunus.
The Indonesian U-17 national team will face Guam tonight at Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong, Bogor. The match has been confirmed to take place without spectators.
The decision to hold a match without spectators is an anticipation of security as well as a form of sympathy for victims in Kanjuruhan.
"For the sake of security and comfort together and respecting and respecting our brothers and sisters who are grieving as a result of the incident that happened at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang, [so] hereby the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup Qualification is officially carried out without spectators," PSSI wrote on official Instagram.
"The refund system will apply to those of you who have given tickets," reads the national football parent statement.
