JAKARTA Optimism was revealed by AC Milan player, Davide Calabria ahead of his team's first appearance in the 2022/2023 Champions League competition. The 25-year-old said the Rossoneri had learned a lot from the trip last season.

I think last season put us in the most difficult group in the Champions League. But playing at this level makes you develop with experience and lessons from before," Calabria was quoted as saying by Football Italia, Tuesday.

Last season, AC Milan was in Group B with Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Porto. However, the Rossoneri's move did not last long as they were eliminated from the group phase after finishing behind Liverpool.

The meeting with Liverpool last season was later revealed by Calabria as a valuable lesson. Milan lost twice against the Reds; first lost 2-3 at Anfield, then 1-2 at the San Siro which ended Rossoneri's hopes of qualifying for the round of 16.

Calabria believes she and her teammates have learned from the defeat. He also assessed that the new players would help the Red Devils advance to the round of 16.

"They (Liverpool) have made us understand the intensity of this competition (Liga Champions). There is more intensity than Serie A and now we have what we lacked last season," Calabria added.

Meanwhile, this season AC Milan are in Group E with Chelsea, RB Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb. The inaugural match which took place on Wednesday, September 7 in the morning WIB will bring together Stefano Pioli's team with RB Salzburg at the Red Bull Arena.
