JAKARTA Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coach Christophe Galtier said his team were not the favorites to win the European Champions League this season.

The French giant will open the European inter-club competition campaign in their home match Group H against Juventus at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, September 7 in the morning WIB.

Galtier said ahead of the match that PSG's chances of winning certainly exist, but are very small compared to other contestant teams.

"Every year, there are eight or nine teams that can win the Champions League and finally there are favorite teams that don't qualify, surprises, and other scenarios," said Galtier, quoted by Sportskeeda.

For this season, the chance for Les Parisien to penetrate the knockout round remains big. The reason is, in the group round there was only Juventus which was the only team that could be their big competitor.

The two giants are likely to win the group title and runner-up to advance to the round of 16 when compared to Benfica and Maccabi Haifa who are their opponents.

Qualifying the knockout round will certainly pave the way for Les Parisien to win their first trophy in this competition. They will certainly try to win this event after failing in recent years.

"That the club has ambitions to win is legit, but I don't think we are the favourites," said the 56-year-old coach.

The European Champions League is the only trophy PSG has won since they were taken over by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011.

Their chances of becoming champions almost materialized in 2020 when they made it through the final while Thomas Tuchel was still taking care of. However, they lost 1-0 in the final match against Bayern Munich.
