JAKARTA - Indonesian men's singles badminton player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting failed to appear in the 2022 Japan Open badminton tournament. He decided to withdraw due to a back injury.
Anthony was supposed to face Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the round of 32 today, Wednesday 31 August.
"Anthony Ginting has a lower back injury or we call it low back pain," said PBSI doctor dr. Grace Joselini Corlesa in a statement received.
Anthony has been undergoing therapy and medical treatment since there were complaints after the quarter-finals at the World Championships against Viktor Axelsen in Tokyo yesterday.
According to dr. Grace, although it continues to improve, Anthony has not been able to maximize it. So, the best decision is to withdraw from the Super 750 level BWF tournament.
"Until yesterday there was progress improving, but if you are forced to play, the results will definitely not be optimal and even the risk of injury will get worse," said Grace.
Anthony actually tried to undergo training for two days yesterday. However, he still felt pain, especially when he looked down.
Head of the Development and Achievement Division of PP PBSI Rionny Mainaky finally decided to withdraw Anthony's participation after hearing information from related parties.
"I heard from coach Irwansyah that there was one moment against Viktor, Ginting tried to take the ball which made his back hurt," said Rionny
Anthony is one of three men's singles scheduled to compete today. The other two men's singles are Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo and Jonatan Christie.
