Reflecting On Suarez-Messi And Alonso-Hamilton, Will Marc Marquez And Joan Mir Collaborate On Honda Or Instead Become New Competition

JAKARTA - The Repsol Honda manufacturer team has announced their line-up for the 2023 MotoGP. Joan Mir officially joined the Suzuki team.

Now Honda has two names of racers who both have great strength. Apart from Mir, there is still an iconic Marc Marquez.

It's no secret that in any sport, star players who have big names, must also have certain ego levels, different specifications because they have big ambitions to win.

When a star player is in the same team as a star who has the same personality, of course there will be two possibilities. First, they collaborate or even clash with each other to create new dominance.

This situation is what is likely to happen in Honda, which now has two star riders in the team. The joining of Mir and Marquez is certainly expected to help the team form the most successful squad in the first class.

But long before Marquez and Mir became partners in the racing team, there were several examples in other sports that gained the team's success when big names were finally combined into a team.

For example, when Luis Suarez chose to leave Liverpool even though he had just helped the club finish second in the Premier League. He has also won the Premier League Gold Boots, European Golden Shoes and the Premier League's best player award in the process.

On the one hand he performed brilliantly then there were big questions about whether he could blend with Lionel Messi when he decided to join Barcelona. However, together with Neymar from Brazil, the three formed the three greatest strikers in football history.

In their first season, the trio of Barcelona strikers nicknamed MSN ended with 122 goals, the most in a season for a trio of strikers in Spanish football history.

Suarez then left Barcelona with four league titles, four Spanish Cup wins and a Champions League winner medal.

In the world of car racing, there were other examples when Fernando Alonso joined McLaren in 2007 after being named the youngest two-time world champion F1. The Spaniard was paired with talented rookie Lewis Hamilton, with the hope that Alonso would challenge the third world title in a row as McLaren's number one rider.

However, their relationship didn't go well when young Hamilton started to put pressure on Alonso regularly. A turmoil occurred during the qualification of the Hungarian Grand Prix when Hamilton did not comply with the team's instructions, thus harming Alonso.

The Spaniard responded by delaying Hamilton in the pit lane and becoming the culmination of tensions that made Alonso and McLaren then separate at the end of the season.

The above example could be a different reflection of the joining of two big names in one team. The most vocal question right now is for Repsol Honda, whether Marc Marquez and Joan Mir can be the riders who bring Honda back to the top of MotoGP.

Or can they bring RC213V which is struggling in a different direction? All eyes will be on Repsol Honda's 2023 appearance.
