JAKARTA - Men's doubles Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan said they were still happy and grateful for the first silver medal from the BWF World Championships event in Tokyo.

The couple's 100 percent winning record nicknamed The Daddies from the previous three editions in 2013, 2015 and 2019 was finally broken on the fourth occasion, when they met Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik from Malaysia.

"I and Koh Hendra still say thank God, we have been able to finish this match even though the results are not what we expected. We also congratulate the Malaysian pair who have become world champions," Ahsan said in a written statement from PP PBSI quoted by Antara, Sunday, August 28.

Competing at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, The Daddies lost two straight games 19-21, 14-21. In the first game they were 11-6 and 18-12 but the Malaysian pair slowly got up and turned things around.

"They played with us trying to complain. played fast but didn't work. After that, they changed it to be more passive and waited a lot. We were even in trouble and weren't ready for their counter-attack. Today we admit they played very closely and didn't die much alone," Hendra explained.

In the second game, Ahsan/Hendra's game loosened. Several times they failed to penetrate Aaron/Soh's tight defense which finally backfired by making a lot of mistakes by themselves.

Regarding the end of their winning record, The Daddies admitted that they didn't want to bother, because they immediately focused on rising at the Japan Open 2022 which will be rolling next week.

"We don't think about statistics. It doesn't matter if the 100 percent record stops. We want to focus on trying again at the Japan Open next week. We also apologize to all Indonesian people for not being able to bring gold medals," said Ahsan.

In addition to bringing a silver medal, the Red and White Squad also brought home one bronze medal which was won by Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.
