JAKARTA - The Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has reached an agreement with former Wydad Casablanca coach Walid Regragui to take over the country's national team in the World Cup final, local media reported Monday.

An official announcement will be made in the coming days, an FRMF representative told AFP without providing further details.

Local media reported that Regragui signed his three-year contract last weekend.

Previously the FRMF sacked Vahid Halilhodzic on 11 August, due to "differences of opinion ... about the preparation of the "Atlas Lions" team for the World Cup final.

The Franco-Bosnian coach managed to get them through to World Cup qualification despite falling out with Moroccan stars Hakim Ziyech of Chelsea and Noussair Mazraoui of Bayern Munich who he refused to pick.

French-born Regragui is a former Morocco international and has played as a defender for a number of French and Spanish clubs.

In one season with Wydad, he successfully led the club to the African Champions League and Moroccan League titles.

The 46-year-old had resigned earlier this month.

In Qatar, Morocco will face Croatia, Belgium and Canada in Group F.
