JAKARTA - The Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT) in Surabaya is reportedly canceled as one of the venues to host the 2023 U-20 World Cup. PSSI General Chairman (Ketum) Mochamad Iriawan responded.

According to Iriawan, to date, PSSI has not received an official statement from FIFA regarding the cancellation of the GBT Stadium as one of the host venues.

“Not yet (there is cancellation information). We'll just have to wait, because if it happens or not, there will be an official letter from FIFA. Yesterday, FIFA saw that the six stadiums were still the same," said Iriawan in a written statement received by VOI, Wednesday.

So far, PSSI has submitted six stadiums to FIFA for the 2023 U-20 World Cup venue. The six stadiums are Jakabaring Stadium (Palembang), Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (Jakarta), Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (Bandung), Manahan Stadium (Solo). ), Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (Surabaya), and Captain I Wayan Dipta Stadium (Bali).

Of the six proposed locations, all of them have also gone through the FIFA inspection process on June 8-17. However, until now FIFA has not made a final decision on the location to be used. Therefore, Iriawan said he still had to wait.

"But we are waiting for (the results of the inspection), whatever the decision from FIFA, we will wait. That's FIFA's right. What is clear is that we are at our maximum," Iriawan continued.

The 2023 U-20 World Cup will be held from May 20 to June 11 next year. So far, there have been a total of 10 state representatives who have qualified for the final round. In addition to Indonesia as the host, there are also Britain, France, Italy, the United States and Israel.
