Manchester United's Humiliating Streak Of Defeats In The Premier League Since 1992

JAKARTA - Manchester United lost again in the Premier League 2022/2023. This time, the club nicknamed the Red Devils surrendered 0-4 to Brentford in the second week.

This was recorded as the worst start for Manchester United since 1992. However, the defeat to Brentford was not the only embarrassing one.

In the last three decades, Manchester United has been humiliated by Chelsea with a score of 0-5 in 1999. Then they also lost 1-4 at home to Liverpool in 2009.

In 2011, the Red Devils tasted a painful defeat with a score of 1-6 to Manchester City. In 2020, they surrendered by the same scoreline when they hosted Tottenham Hotspur.

Less shocking, but equally humiliating, defeats were a 5-0 loss at home to Liverpool at Old Trafford last October and a 4-0 loss to the same team four months ago.

However, the defeat to Brentford is considered the most embarrassing. The reason is, this result was achieved against a team whose player quality can be considered below Manchester United.

It was the second defeat for the Red Devils in two games at the start of the season. Previously, they also went home empty-handed in the first week after being beaten by Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 at Old Trafford.

The two defeats made Erik Ten Hag's team occupy the bottom of the current standings. It is the first time they have been bottom of the table in three decades since the Premier League era began in 1992.

This nightmare is likely to continue. The reason is, the next week Cristiano Ronaldo and his friends faced a tougher opponent. They will host Liverpool at Old Trafford on Tuesday, August 23.
