JAKARTA – Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies will donate the bonus he got from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar later this year to a charity in Canada.

This he conveyed in the latest tweet on personal Twitter. The donation is a form of gratitude for the country which has accommodated his family who came as immigrants.

"Canada welcomed me and my family and gave us the opportunity for a better life. It allowed me to make my dreams come true," Davies wrote.

Davies' past is not as beautiful as it is today. His family hails from Liberia, but the war in the country forced them to flee.

They initially became refugees in one of the refugee camps in Ghana before moving to Canada. This country is very famous for being friendly with immigrants and is the safest asylum for refugees.

Davies held a visa as a refugee for a long time before gaining citizenship in 2017. In the same year he made his Canadian national team debut at the age of 16 years.

"It is a great honor to play for Canada and I want to repay it. So, I have decided to donate this year's World Cup earnings to charity."

Davies joined Bayern Munich in 2019. He then helped Canada qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1986 in Mexico.

In Qatar, Canada will join Group F along with Croatia, Belgium and Morocco. Canada will start their journey in the four-year event by meeting Belgium.
