JAKARTA - JIP, the official mascot of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, was introduced to basketball lovers in Indonesia, Saturday, July 30. This launch also marks the countdown to the FIBA World Cup which will be held next year.

The robotic mascot is the creation of three young people from the three host countries. The three young people are Kota (Japan), Dewi (Indonesia) and Caloy (Philippines).

JIP is a name taken from the acronym of the three host countries, namely Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines. This mascot is considered to be able to spread the spirit of the 2023 FIFA World Cup which will unite, as well as represent all citizens of the world.

"With the launch of JIP, we hope that all basketball lovers are ready to welcome the biggest tournament in the world next year, and this is also a great opportunity for basketball fans in Jakarta, Okinawa, and Manila to interact and have fun with our robotic mascot," said the Executive Director of FIBA Basketball World. Cup 2023, David Crooker.

Meanwhile, FIBA Central Board Member, Erick Thohir, believes that the 2023 FIBA World Cup will provide broad benefits for the Indonesian people and build a new economy.

As is known, Indonesia will hold the 2023 FIBA World Cup at a new venue, namely the Indonesia Arena. The stadium with a capacity of 16,000 people can not only be used for sports matches, but also for music and creative industries and SMEs.

"So it has wider benefits for economic growth and recovery, as well as opening new jobs," said Erick Thohir.

Indonesia hosted the 2023 FIBA World Cup, which was the first time to introduce the JIP. In Manila, Philippines, the JIP launch will take place on Sunday 31 July at the Mall of Asia Atrium, Manila.

Meanwhile in Japan, the JIP robot will appear on various TV programs during the week and is scheduled to attend the "One Year to Go" event for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, next August.
