JAKARTA - The opening ceremony of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles will take place on July 14 and the Games will conclude on July 30, the LA28 Olympics organizers announced Monday local time.

The LA28 Paralympics will begin on August 15 and conclude on August 27.

"Today marks the official countdown to the LA28 Olympics and Paralympics," said five-time Olympic medalist and LA28 Chief Athlete Janet Evans.

"The LA28 Olympics will be like no other, bringing the best of Southern California's incredible stadiums and world-class culture to fans' athletes.

"This milestone makes the Olympics a reality for every athlete who is actively training for their LA28 dream and the fans who follow this journey."

The LA28 Olympics will mark the third time the Games have been held in the Southern California city after previous events in 1932 and 1984. This will be the first time LA has hosted the Paralympics.

Organizers have said using the existing stadium as well as college dormitories for athletes and media to live will help keep costs low and reduce environmental impact.

"LA is an ambitious city with endless possibilities and the Olympics will reflect our community," said LA28 Chairman Casey Wasserman. "Los Angeles will provide the perfect backdrop to host the world's largest cultural, sporting and entertainment event."

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach said he was impressed by the organizers' progress and creativity, including LA28's $160 million investment to support youth sports in Los Angeles.

"Six years before the opening ceremony of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, this is already a significant legacy of the Olympics, making a difference in the lives of more than one hundred thousand children," said Bach.

"This will help bring new fans to Olympic sport and leave a sporting legacy to future generations."
