JAKARTA - Persib Bandung qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2022 President's Cup. A 1-0 victory over Bhayangkara FC in the last match of Group C elimination brought Maung Bandung to qualify as group winners.

The only goal in the match which took place at the Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung, June 21, yesterday, was scored by a foreign player from Persib, David Da Silva. He broke into Bhayangkara FC's goal in the 35th minute.

This goal was presented by Da Silva to the late Asep Ahmad Solihin and Sofian Yusuf. They are the two men who died while watching the Persib-Persib match against Persebaya, 17 June 2022.

"This is a difficult match. Also with the current situation. I want to dedicate this goal to (the late) Ahmad and Sofian," Da Silva said as reported by the club's official website.

"Of course this is not comparable. However, this is a form of my respect for both of them and their families," he continued.

The Brazilian player hopes that there will be no more incidents that occur during Persib's trip to the President's Cup. He wants Persib's steps to run smoothly and without any obstacles.

"I certainly want to achieve good results in this tournament. But, what is more important is that we all want football to run well," said David Da Silva.

Previously, Persib Bandung coach, Robert Alberts, hoped to appear in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Presidential Cup in Bandung. He also wants the match to be seen by the audience.

"We really hope to get permission to play in Bandung for the quarter-finals, because we want to win," said Robert as quoted by Antara.
