Football in the United States was played in the early 1600s, with "Pasuckquakkohowog" being the first form of football played among American Indians. In 1865, the game became one of the organized college sports.

In 1885, the first official American football team appeared in an international match against Canada.

CONCACAF is FIFA's governing body for association football in North, Central America and the Caribbean. The US national team is the defending CONCACAF Gold Cup champion. The Yangks have also won this trophy 6 times in the 2020/21, 2016/17, 2012/13, 2006/07, 2004/05, 2001/02 and 1990/91 seasons.

History at the World Cup

The history of the United States at the World Cup began in the early 1930s. The Yanks joined 13 teams in the first World Cup, including the champions Uruguay. Since then, the US squad has appeared in the 1934, 1950, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022 World Cup tournaments.
