JAKARTA - Al Rihla from Adidas will be the official ball for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The 14th consecutive ball created by Adidas for the FIFA World Cup is designed to support high-speed play, as it travels faster in the air than any ball in the tournament's history.

“This is a stunning, sustainable and high-quality Official Match Ball from Adidas that stars performing at the top of their game on the world's biggest stage in Qatar, as well as grassroots players everywhere,” said Jean-François Pathy, FIFA Marketing Director quoted from the official website.

"Al Rihla's journey around the world will represent the incredible reach of the FIFA World Cup and provide fans with a unique opportunity to engage with the event as excitement mounts ahead of the big kick-off."

Designed from the inside out using rigorous data and testing in Adidas labs, in wind tunnels and on the pitch by the football players themselves, Al Rihla delivers the highest levels of accuracy and reliability on the playing field, in part due to its new panel shape and surface texture.

“The game is getting faster and faster and, as the pace goes on, accuracy and stability in the air becomes very important,” said Franziska Löffelmann, Design Director – Football Graphics & Hardwear at Adidas.

“The new design allows this ball to maintain a much higher speed as it travels through the air. For the biggest global stage in all sport, we made the impossible possible with radical innovation by creating the fastest and most accurate FIFA World Cup ball to date."

This ball is designed with sustainability as a priority; indeed, the Al Rihla is the first FIFA World Cup ball made exclusively with water-based ink and glue.

Al Rihla means "journey" in Arabic and is inspired by Qatar's culture, architecture, iconic boats and flag. The bold and bright colors set on a pearl background represent the host country of the FIFA World Cup and the ever-increasing pace of the game.

Al Rihla's first public appearance will be with legends such as Iker Casillas, Kaká, Farah Jefry and Nouf Al Anzi, who will be joined by a diverse array of talent, including promising female footballers from Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, plus next generation players from Doha's Aspire Academy.

The launch marks the start of Al Rihla's journey to ten cities around the world – including Dubai, Tokyo, Mexico City and New York – where Adidas launched a series of initiatives aimed at increasing access and equity in sport among local communities.
