Fabio Quartararo Officially Extends 2-Year Contract With Yamaha

JAKARTA - MotoGP reigning champion Fabio Quartararo has officially extended his contract with Yamaha. The new agreement approved by the French rider has a duration of two years.

This means that the 23-year-old will stay at the manufacturer until 2024.

"I am really pleased to announce to all of you that I will be staying with Yamaha for another two years," said Quartararo on the official MotoGP website.

This agreement also ends months of speculation regarding the driver's future.

Previously, it was widely reported that he wanted to leave because he was not satisfied with the performance of the YZR-M1. Quartararo is even said to have negotiated with other teams.

At that time there was speculation that Quartararo would leave the factory from Hamamatsu and join the team's arch-rivals, Honda.

"Yamaha believes in me. And now that we have officially confirmed our decision to continue on this path together, we can fully focus on the current season," he said.

"I would like to say thank you!' To the people around me, who have always helped me and supported me, and to the fans who supported me. I really appreciate all the support."

Quartararo made his MotoGP debut in 2019 with the Yamaha Petronas SRT satellite squad. In his first season he managed to score seven podiums before carving out three wins in 2020.

He was then promoted to the factory Yamaha squad in 2021 to replace Valentino Rossi. In that year he successfully won five races as well as came out as world champion.

His title managed to break Yamaha's famine since 2015. Interestingly, he locked the first world title when the race still had two series remaining.

This season, Quartararo also still looks impressive even though he often criticizes the performance of his motorbike. His performance made him managed to lead the standings with a collection of 122 points from eight races that have been held.
