JAKARTA - PBSI Secretary General Muhammad Fadil Imran responded to a case of alleged verbal abuse by athlete Yeremia Erich Rambitan when he was about to return from the 2021 SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Fadil Imran said that Jeremiah had apologized and said he was sorry for his actions. He added that Jeremiah contacted him directly and promised never to do it again.

Seeing Jeremiah's attitude, Imran gave a positive appreciation for the courage of the badminton player who was willing to admit mistakes.

"Yere has apologized. Yere has apologized and his courage is extraordinary. The social sanctions are far more powerful," said the man who also serves as the Metro Jaya Police Chief.

"Yere has called me while regretting, he said he is sorry and will not do it again," he continued when met after the Indonesia Open 2022 press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday, May 25 afternoon.

Imran said that actually Jeremiah didn't mean to be serious. However, when doing a live broadcast on social media, the player's jokes have gone too far.

"In TikTok, the intention is maybe joking, but people's perceptions are different. Later, if you know the profile of a Yere, you will know better, he really likes to joke," explained Imran.

In the video that circulated and then went viral, it was seen that Jeremiah said the sentence, "I love you, I want f*** you." He made the remarks on the bus on the way to the airport when he returned home.

It was said that Jeremiah made this remark to the 2021 SEA Games volunteers. Inevitably, this action drew criticism from the public.

Netizens also feel angry with Jeremiah who should be able to maintain an attitude. Moreover, when the incident took place, Jeremiah was wearing an Indonesian contingent jacket with the Garuda symbol on his chest.
