JAKARTA - All karate sports brought home medals from the 2021 SEA Games Hanoi. This sport even managed to exceed the gold medal target at the biennial event.

Karate brought home a total of 14 medals from Vietnam. The details are four gold medals, eight silver medals and two bronze medals.

This achievement successfully exceeded the target carried by the Executive Board of the Karate-Do Sports Federation (FORKI). Previously, the target was only three gold medals.

"The performance of the children is superior, they exceed the target. Actually, Indonesia could get more (gold medals). However, there are many factors that cannot be explained here that can affect it," PB FORKI Secretary General Raja Sapta Ervian, quoted Saturday May 21.

Of the 15 numbers contested karate managed to become 12 finalists. It means that all the athletes who were sent there successfully returned home with medals.

The last gold from the karate sport was presented by the trio of sons Albiadi/Andy Tomy Aditya Mardana/Andi Dasril Dwi Dharmawan.

The gold medal perfected Ahmad Zigi Zaresta Yuda from the men's individual number. Ahmad Zigi's positive gold trend was followed by Ari Saputra through the men's 60kg kumite number, and Cok Istri Agung S who got the gold medal through the women's 55kg kumite number.

Raja Sapta Ervian said, this good achievement is the result of a good coaching process and program from PB FORKI. This, he said, would be continued because PB FORKI is targeting a bigger stage, the Asian to the global continental level.

"In the near future, children will take part in the Asian Championships at the end of this year, so the level will be at the level of the Asian Games," said Raja.

So far, Indonesia has collected a total of 50 gold medals. That number made Merah Putih stay in third place in the medal standings, behind Vietnam in the top position and Thailand in second place.
