Already Losing Antonio Rudiger And Andreas Christensen, Chelsea Manager Thomas Tuchel Not Willing Cesar Azpilicueta To Barcelona

JAKARTA - Chelsea do not seem to want to lose their captain, Cesar Azpilicueta. They continue to persuade the defender to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard's future with the Blues continues to be the subject of news. The two parties are currently discussing a new contract.

The 32-year defender's contract expires this summer. For that, he is reportedly considering an offer from Barcelona.

In fact, the former Olympique Marseille player has reportedly urged the club to let him leave for free in the nearest transfer window.

If Azpilicueta were to leave, it would be a crushing blow for the London club. The reason, he will be the third defender to leave the club at the end of the season after Antonio Rudiger of and Andreas Christensen.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said losing Azpilicueta was clearly not what they wanted. Moreover, they have certainly lost several key defenders in the following season.

"Given the fact that we have already lost a key defender, it is not an ideal scenario to think about losing Azpilicueta, although I can understand his personal point of view," said Tuchel.

"He is our captain. We are still in dialogue and at some point we are also selfish because we are not responsible for solving other clubs' problems or fulfilling other clubs' wishes."

Barcelona has reportedly prepared a two-year contract offer for the Osasuna academy product. That too with the option of an extension of one year.

Azpilicueta is in his tenth season with the Blues since joining in 2012. He made a total of 474 appearances with 17 goals and 56 assists in all the competitions he played in.
