JAKARTA - Indonesian women's singles, Bilqis Prasista made a surprise in the final qualifying round for the 2022 Uber Cup. Appearing at the Impact Arena, Bangkok on Wednesday afternoon, Bilqis was able to overthrow the Japanese representative, Akane Yamaguchi, who is the world's number one female badminton player.

Surprisingly, the 19-year-old badminton player appeared impressive against Yamaguchi. Although far adrift in the world rankings, Bilqis managed to win.

In a duration of 35 minutes, Bilqis won the straight game with an identical score of 21-19 and 21-19. The Indonesian women's singles victory immediately received the attention of BWF.

Through their official Instagram account, BWF uploaded a short video showing the moment when Akane bowed to Bilqis. Completing the upload, BWF also wrote that Bilqis is the new star of Indonesian badminton.

“Wow sensational! Indonesia has a new star. World ranking number 333, Bilqis Prasista won from world ranking number 1, Akane Yamaguchi," wrote BWF in the post description.

The BWF upload immediately received the spotlight from netizens who were not a few Indonesian citizens. They also expressed their pride with Bilqis's score.

However, Bilqis' victory over Akane, who opened the final elimination match, was inversely proportional to other results. Four other Indonesian representatives actually fell and made a superior score for Japan 4-1.

Despite losing, Indonesia is still declared to have qualified for the quarter-finals. This is because Indonesia managed to occupy the runner-up position in Group A of the 2022 Uber Cup.
