JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo expressed his desire that the Indonesian contingent be able to penetrate the top three positions in the 2021 SEA Games medal standings. He admitted that it was not easy, but with the selection that has been made, it is hoped that this dream can be achieved.

This was conveyed by President Jokowi when releasing the Indonesian contingent for the 2021 SEA Games at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday, May 9. Reflecting on the achievements of the previous SEA Games, this number one person in Indonesia wants an increase.

At the 2015 SEA Games Singapore, Indonesia took fifth place. The Red and White Team again occupied the same position at the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia.

While at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines, the Indonesian contingent entered the top four positions.

"This time, we want that at the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam, we can enter the third, second or first rankings," said President Jokowi, as reported by Antara.

"It is not an easy thing, but I heard that the selection has been done well and I hope that this achievement can really hatch," he continued.

Meanwhile, CdM Indonesia, Ferry J Kono said that his team was aiming for the top four positions at the 2021 SEA Games. He also hoped that what President Jokowi said at the release ceremony could trigger motivation and increase the athletes' sense of nationalism so that they can excel in Vietnam.

"Because the SEA Games is an intermediate target towards qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics, this time we will try to stay in the top four," said Ferry Kono.

"We hope that this new spirit, especially the one given by Mr. President, can create a higher sense of nationalism so that we will strive to the maximum in the SEA Games later," he continued.

Ferry then expects prayers from all Indonesian people so that the national team can achieve the best achievements.

"Considering that we are competing in other countries, of course there will be a lot of pressure from the host, we hope that prayers and support will pump up the spirits of our athletes," said Ferry Kono.
