Canelo Alvarez Reveals When He Retired From Boxing

JAKARTA - Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez insists he has no plans to retire from boxing in the near future.

But, the undisputed 168-pound champion has set a rough schedule for when he will hang up his gloves.

"I don't see myself retiring from boxing yet," Alvarez said on the Boxing with Chris Mannix podcast.

"I want to fight for many years. You know, this is a sport where you have a short amount of time.

"I always just say six years, seven years more and that's it. Maybe less, maybe more, but we don't know."

The 31-year-old boxer started his professional career at the age of 15 in 2005. Since then he has collected titles in four divisions.

Currently, he is preparing for the fight against Dmitry Bivol that will take place on May 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in a duel for the 175-pound title.

Alvarez added, deciding to retire from boxing was a very difficult thing.

"No, it will be difficult," said Alvarez.

"But it is. The body tells you when it's time to go."

He went on to state that he has no desire to emulate Bernard Hopkins, who holds the record for the oldest boxer to win a world title at the age of 49.

"No, that case is special," Alvarez said of Hopkins.

"I don't want to fight at 50."
